LINEAR CAPSTANS

DESCRIPTION:

The motor drive plate has been designed to allow for easy and accurate belt tensioning. The entire unit can be changed from a pullout to a metering Capstan in the field with minimum down time. The use of an AC Vector motor, for most applications, has eliminated the need for a transmission with improvements in performance within a wide range of operating parameters.
Both ends of the Capstan have large, side-hinged panels for maintenance access. The rear-meshed guards are hinged and are painted flat black for ease in viewing inside the cabinet. An externally mounted grease manifold allows for greasing components without shutting down the equipment. The drive train is entirely contained inside the cabinet.

MGS Series LC Linear Capstans are engineered and constructed for low maintenance and continuous service. They are equally at home running conventional cables or sophisticated fiber optic products.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

MGS Linear Capstans combine classic simplicity with features unavailable on competitive models. Qualities that make these Capstans outstanding include:

A differential in the drive system to precisely match the speed and pulling effort of each belt. Cable scuffing is eliminated and belt life is extended.
Treads open and close to follow changes in cable diameter. The lower tread is always horizontal, while the upper one can "scissor" when adjusting to different diameters.
Cable centerline elevation is constant for all diameters. Standard elevation is 42.25 inches.
Opening and closing of treads is normally accomplished with pushbuttons.
On models with a pulling force of 2,000 pounds or less, a single air cylinder provides loading of all rollers along the full length of the upper and lower belts for uniform pressure to the product.
Belt tension is adjusted by jackscrew when the machine is idle. Since the entire tread moves during opening and closing, belt tension is always uniform.
Belts have a flat continuous (seamless) surface of 3/8-inch thick neoprene. Belts are poly-V type with grooved pulleys to effectively prevent lateral movement. Slide back up and timing belts are available.
The entrance and exit guide roll assemblies are mounted inside the cabinet, which improves tracking of the product between the upper and lower belt. The positioning of the guide rolls is pneumatically actuated for operator convenience and safety.

The guide rolls can be lowered below the pass line for easy and quick string up. The roller guides positioning is adjustable and held by pneumatic pressure, which keeps the product centered while allowing for the passage of lumps or knots.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT:

An air operated belt tension system permits rapid belt changes. This is particularly useful when profiled belts are used.

A power operated sliding base allows the entire machine to be moved for alignment when multiple groove profiled belts are used.
